DOHTONBORI: Eat until you drop
Dohtonbori is getting popular in the Philippines now. They specializes in Okonomiyaki. Okonomiyaki (read as o-konomi-yaki ) came from the word Okonomi which means "what you like" and Yaki meaning to grill. Okonomiyaki is a japanese pancake containing a variety of ingredients from eggs, cheese, scallions, vegetables and so on. The toppings vary depending on the region (in Japan). Final Toppings for Okonomiyaki are Okonomiyaki sauce, japanese/kewpie mayonnaise and aonori seaweed powder. You can also add Bonito Flakes as one of the final toppings.
Last Sunday was the birthday of my cousin so we then decided to eat at a place we haven't tried before. So we ended up choosing Dohtonbori from the usual choices since we all love Japanese food.
Since we just live in San Juan we visited the one in Greenhills. Dohtonbori offers cook-your-own Okonomiyaki experience. If you don't want to cook your own as you are so hungry to do the cooking. You can ask assistance from their dedicated server/staff.

Disclaimer: Picture above outside the restaurant not mine. I grabbed it from the net. I failed to take a photo since i was too excited to go in.
All griddles they used are from Japan. Their griddles is actually big than your actual space where you can put your plates. They say the griddles can accommodate 2 dishes but i think that depends on the size of the dish. For our order, it was able to take in 3 dishes which are Gyoza, Pork Yakiniku and Four Cheese Okonomiyaki. The ambience is good, the place can hold a lot of people and their service, I can give them 5 stars!!!. The servers/staff are too attentive to your needs. No one escapes their Japanese greetings upon entering the restaurant. They give you water refill every now and then without you even asking. Service is fast.
They even have crates for your belongings or cabinet for your shoes/footwear. For booth type tables they have crates underneath the seats.
We stayed in their tatami room. This is free of extra charge. We just walked in you know. You can also stay outside. Wherever you want to.
All in all we ordered Gyoza (P120.00), Pork Yakiniku (P180.00), Four Cheese Okonomiyaki (P290.00), Ramen Tonkotsu (P290.00) and Rice Set - 1 Rice plus Miso Soup (P90.00). Our bill is 1,056.61 not bad. I actually find it very affordable.
We didn't order much as the usual servings we used to eat. HAHA! I don't know i get easily full these days. I think better order enough - those you are sure you can finish off than let it go to waste. You can order additional if it still isn't enough anyway.
Here's their menu with pictures:
They also offer Salads, Desserts and Kiddie Menu.

Best Sellers:
- Sukiyaki
This is not recommended for big group sharing as Dohtonbori made it smaller than the usual pot size. It comes with meat and veggies. The soup doesn't have noodles in it. They served the egg as a dipping.
- Hiroshima Yaki
As what i've mentioned above. Okonomiyaki ingedients vary depending on the region in Japan. So this Okonomiyaki is Hiroshima Style. Hiroshima style has its ingredients layered rather than mixed. The layers are typically batter, cabbage, pork, and optional items such as squid, octopus, and cheese. Noodles (yakisoba, udon) are also used as a topping with fried egg and a generous amount of okonomiyaki sauce.
- Butatama Pork
This is an Osaka Style Okonomiyaki. Its also the predominant version of the dish, found throughout most of Japan. The batter is made of flour, grated nagaimo (a type of yam), water or dashi, eggs and shredded cabbage, and usually contains other ingredients such as green onion, meat (generally thin pork belly, often mistaken for bacon), octopus, squid, shrimp, vegetables, konjac, mochi or cheese. This style is the one mixed before cooking.
- Quattro Formaggi Pizza
This is their own version of the popular pizza today. the 4 Cheese pizza. It is consists of mixed cheese, parmesan, cheddar and mozarella which are grilled then drizzled with caramel sauce.
